Allegheny County Airport

Our hotel was right across the road from the Allegheny County Airport in West Mifflin, so we went over and took a little tour before we left town. The airport opened in 1931, and its terminal is a great example of the art deco architecture of that era. The main lobby contains a small but very interesting museum of Pittsburgh’s aeronautical history.

The Allegheny County Airport opened in 1931 and served as Pittsburgh’s commercial airport until the opening of the current international one in 1952. The terminal is a great example from the "golden age" of flight, and it remains in use as a popular location for general aviation and special events.
